Tasting Notes
Giacomo Borgogno’s 2016 Barolo Cannubi is a benchmark expression of one of Barolo’s most revered vineyards. Established in 1761, Borgogno is among Piedmont’s oldest wineries, renowned for its traditional approach and deep cellar aging. The 2016 vintage marks a significant milestone as the first from organically farmed Cannubi vines, reflecting the estate’s commitment to sustainability and terroir authenticity.
The wine is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grown on the calcareous and clay-rich slopes of Cannubi. Fermentation involves a lengthy maceration of over 40 days, followed by four years of aging in large Slavonian oak casks and additional bottle refinement. This meticulous process yields a wine of remarkable depth and structure.
In the glass, the 2016 Cannubi displays a ruby hue tending toward garnet. The nose is noble and delicate, with immediate balsamic notes of mint and eucalyptus, followed by ripe red fruit, undergrowth, cedar wood, and Indian spices. On the palate, it is soft, airy, and powerful, with vibrant acidity and round, coarse tannins. The finish is long and fragrant, showcasing the wine's complexity and elegance.
This vintage is poised for long-term aging, with a drinking window extending from 2023 to 2050. It pairs exceptionally well with red meats, game, and matured cheeses, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts seeking an authentic and memorable Barolo experience.

""Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. A little closed on the nose hinting at sweet fruit and camphor, but really enticing. Compact, embryonic and closed but perfectly balanced. Polished, fine chewy tannins. Quite stunning, but way too young. 07/2020""
