A Premier Grand Cru Classé of 1855, is a cornerstone of the Barsac appellation and one of the oldest vineyards in Sauternes. With roots reaching back to the 13th century and a winemaking legacy established in the 17th, the estate is renowned for producing sweet wines of exceptional finesse.
Its cool, limestone-rich soils contribute to a signature style defined by precision, freshness, and elegance—qualities further elevated since 1977 under the ownership of the Baly family, in partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

Tasting Notes

Château Coutet 2024 is a luminous expression of Barsac’s distinctive terroir, where cooling soils and careful craftsmanship meet to create one of Bordeaux’s most refined sweet wines. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé with a storied history dating back to the Middle Ages, Coutet combines heritage with innovation under the direction of the Baly family and in partnership with Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The 2024 vintage benefited from a cool, slow-ripening season and perfectly timed noble rot, resulting in a wine of exceptional balance. Notes of pear, citrus, and botrytis spice unfold on a fresh, lively palate, where sweetness is elegantly countered by natural acidity and subtle bitterness. The finish is long, focused, and nuanced, affirming Coutet’s status as a benchmark for energy and finesse in sweet Bordeaux.

"Delivers texture and flesh, love the aromatics that are sweet without being heavy, this has restraint and carefully-measured fleshy fruits, nectarine, pineapple, white peaches, lime zest, gunsmoke, perfectly-judged acidities. One of the wines of the vintage, great stuff from Philippe and Aline Baly. - Jane Anson"

"Medium yellow gold, silver reflections. Fresh tropical fruit, white fruit, floral touch, fine blossom honey, pleasant meadow herb spice. Juicy, silky and elegant, ripe peach, fresh structure, lingers for a long time, a promise for the future. - Peter Moser"

"The 2024 Coutet was picked over six tries although the final ones were not used with 134 g/L residual sugar this year. It has quite an intense bouquet with beautifully defined lemon thyme and light peach aromas. The palate is well balanced with a vivacious opening, lively apricot and quince notes and concentration effortlessly offset by the silver thread of acidity. Composed and persistent on the finish, this is a superb Coutet. - Neal Martin"

"The 2024 Coutet is a dense, voluptuous Sauternes. Orange peel, apricot jam, passion fruit, pineapple and white flowers convey tons of exoticism. Ample and resonant on the palate, with superb depth, Coutet is outstanding in 2024. - Antonio Galloni"

"Château Coutet gently refines its familiar mandarin aroma into the delicate fragrance of candied mandarin peel. Crisp lemon tart, the sweet richness of pineapple pastry, and the purity of dried apricot join in, creating a bouquet that brings effortless delight. Each breath brings joy. Acidity runs strikingly high this year, and the sugar is equally generous, yet on the palate, they meet in a balance so vivid it takes you by surprise. The success of the vintage owes much to a rare stretch of dry weather during the botrytis season. That precious window allowed Coutet 2024 to achieve exceptional purity and concentration, fully expressing the character of its clay-limestone soils. - Alexandre Ma"
