Tasting Notes

A blend of merlot/cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc/petit verdot from a 1940s-planted vineyard in the subregion of Vine Vale. Blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry fruits strut their stuff here, along with hints of clove, cedar, vanillin oak, earth, macerated plums and smoked meats. Sporting a deep fruit presence and a calm demeanour, fine, chocolatey tannins and an iodine/graphite note on the long, black-fruited finish

Scores

96 / 100

"Bold and deeply flavoured, this stunning cabernet shows blackcurrant, bay leaf, cedar, subtle game and floral notes on the nose, followed by a substantial palate that’s beautifully layered with fine texture and complex flavours. It’s superbly framed by chalky tannins, offering terrific structure and length. At its best: 2024 to 2040."

"Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc, from near-50yo vines on the estate vineyard in Vine Vale. A long spell (26 months) in French oak barriques has lent a savoury, gamey complexity that marks the brightness and purity of crunchy red fruits of this Bordeaux-style blend. Its juicy fruit core carries through a long finish, with strong support from firm, fine tannins and bright acidity."
