Tasting Notes
Domaine des Croix was founded in 2005 under the stewardship of David Croix, formerly of Camille Giroud. The estate is based in Beaune and focuses on expressing the unique terroirs of the Côte de Beaune through organic farming and low-intervention winemaking. Croix’s meticulous attention to site and structure has earned the domaine a reputation for producing Pinot Noir of precision, elegance, and depth.
Les Greves, situated on the iconic Corton hill, is one of the top Grand Cru parcels in the Côte de Beaune. The domaine's vines in this lieu-dit average around 60 years of age and are rooted in limestone-rich soils with a mix of clay and marl, giving the wine its firm backbone and mineral tension. Farming is organic, and vinification involves whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and aging in carefully selected French oak barrels, with minimal new oak to preserve purity.
The 2014 vintage is cool and classic in style, marked by its balance and clarity. In the glass, the wine shows a translucent ruby hue. The nose is lifted and aromatic, offering notes of redcurrant, cherry, crushed rose petals, and hints of smoky earth and spice. The palate is medium-bodied but structured, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish. This is a refined and cerebral Corton with aging potential through 2032, best paired with roasted duck, wild mushroom dishes, or hard cheeses.

95 / 100""This wine has a smoky character that gives an exotic touch to the red fruits. It comes from 60-year old vines that give concentration and dark tannins. As it ages, the wine will broaden and expand to convey opulence and richness.""

""Here too the wood treatment is sufficiently deft as to avoid it fighting with the more prominently earthy and sauvage aromas of mostly dark berry fruit scents. As is usually this case this is a bigger and more robust Corton with its broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent power and muscularity, all wrapped in serious, austere and built-to-age finale. Interestingly this is bigger and more powerful than the La Vigne au Saint but it's not necessarily more structured. Either way, patience, and lots of it, will be required in both cases. *Sweet spot*""

""Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, des Croix's 2014 Corton Grand Cru Grèves shows much better in bottle than it did from barrel. It has slightly darker fruit than the Corton-Pouget from Jadot tasted alongside, yet it is well defined with touches of iodine and violet emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a fine line of acidity and plenty of freshness with a taut, mineral-driven finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a quality Corton Grand Cru from David Croix. Tasted September 2017.""
