Tasting Notes
Domaine Henri Bonneau is one of the most revered and historic producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with deep roots in the region dating back several generations. The domaine is known for its meticulous approach to viticulture and vinification, cultivating some of the most old-vine, low-yielding plots in the appellation. Henri Bonneau was famous for his traditional methods, using minimal intervention and aging his wines in large oak casks for extended periods, a technique that has contributed to the wines’ complexity, richness, and longevity.
The Cuvée des Célestines, one of the domaine’s most prestigious cuvées, is made from the estate's oldest vines and the best plots of land, showcasing the unique terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The 2007 vintage, which was particularly warm and dry, presents a wine of intense richness and power. It features dark fruit notes of blackberry, plum, and black cherry, with a hint of garrigue and herbaceous spice. The wine is structured with fine, velvety tannins, balanced by vibrant acidity, making it a harmonious, elegant expression of the region. This wine is approachable now, but its true potential will unfold with further cellaring, where it will continue to evolve in depth and complexity.

97 / 100""We finished the tasting with the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve des Célestins, which had been recently bottled. It’s a classic 2007 that has overflowing kirsch, sweet black cherry, garrigue, incense and ground pepper aromas and flavors. Sexy, supple and hedonistic, it’s one mouthful of a Châteauneuf that has no shortage of sweet fruit, texture or length. And given this showing, there’s certainly no harm in drinking this in its youth either.""

""Deep ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes blackberry and cherry preserves, candied flowers, licorice and incense, with a bright mineral overtone. Stains the palate with sappy, spice-tinged dark berry and fruitcake flavors that are deepened by a suggestion of fruitcake. At once ripe and lively, finishing with superb energy and length and supple, building tannins. This is surprisingly graceful for a 2007 Chateauneuf, especially at this stage when most of them have gone to sleep or at least are in a sullen mood.""
