Tasting Notes
Pierre-Vincent Girardin, representing the 13th generation of his winemaking family, established his own domaine in 2017. Drawing from his father's legacy and vineyards, he has quickly garnered attention for crafting wines that express the purity and precision of their terroir.
The 'La Croix' parcel, with vines approximately 70 years old, is located on the Aloxe side of Corton-Charlemagne, adjacent to the historic cross marking the vineyard's namesake. This area is renowned for its exceptional terroir, contributing to the wine's distinctive character.
Girardin practices organic farming and employs meticulous winemaking techniques. The wine undergoes fermentation and aging in custom 456-liter barrels (100% new oak) for 12 months, followed by 8 months in stainless steel. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered, preserving its natural expression.
This approach results in a wine that showcases the mineral-driven character of Corton-Charlemagne, with a harmonious balance of richness and tension, making it both approachable in its youth and suitable for extended aging.
