Tasting Notes

Established in 1902, Clos du Marquis originates from the Petit Clos, once the residence of the Marquis de Las Cases. Situated just 500 meters from Château Léoville Las Cases, its 44-hectare vineyard benefits from sandy-clay quaternary gravel soils, contributing to the wine's complexity and depth. The 2024 vintage, comprising 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, underwent 16 months of aging in 50% new oak barrels. This meticulous process results in a full-bodied and lively red wine that embodies the distinctive character of Saint-Julien.

Scores

96 / 100

"A very fragrant, mineral-driven nose. This has some depth but remains poised and refined with a thin gauze of fine, chalky tannins that dissolve throughout the palate. Long and almost ethereal. Spot-on balance and poise, the terroir showing through in a delicate, transparent vintage like this one. Slightly lighter than previous years but a more “intellectual” wine. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. - James Suckling"

"Classic body and bouquet, impeccable precision in winemaking and ageing, highly recommended."
