Tasting Notes
The Fogarty family first landed in Tasmania from Ireland in the mid-1800s, and have recently returned to their roots with their exciting project Lowestoft. Purchased in 1830 by Thomas Lowes, he was one of the very first people to plant vines in the region near Hobart. They create pristine, luxury Tasmanian wines that provide joyous drinking experiences. This is an effortlessly elegant Pinot Noir with attitude and structure. After being hand-picked from close-planted vines (planted in 1986) on the Lowestoft estate, the quality grapes mature in large-format French oak, seeing around 35% first use oak, for almost a full year. It comes together as a brooding, structured Pinot Noir with spicy whole-bunch elements, intense flavour and dusty, earthy qualities. Will happily evolve in bottle with a little bit of cellar time, too.

Scores
96 / 100"Made with 100% whole cluster, pressed directly to 500L French oak puncheons (15% new) for 13 months. There's a lot going on here – all of it good. Bright red cherry, red plum and raspberry pip tones with hints of cocoa powder, pomegranate, Chinese barbecue joint, amaro, souk-like spice, leaf litter, struck flint, XO sauce, shiitake broth and earth. Pure and spicy red fruits, fine, powdery tannins and a mineral-laden acidity that seems to pull the flavours forward on the palate, finishing long, savoury and true with everything plumb and tickety boo. Just lovely. - Dave Brookes - Published 20 March 2025"
