TASTING NOTES

This is the wine you reach for when you want to turn an evening into something unforgettable. Domaine Henri Bonneau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Célestines 2009 is pure elegance from one of the region’s most cherished estates, known for nurturing some of the oldest vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Imagine rich, sun-soaked Grenache layered with lush dark berries, hints of spice, and a whisper of earthiness that adds a captivating depth. It’s velvety yet structured, balancing plush fruit with savory complexity thanks to the extended aging in large oak casks. This wine carries the warmth and intensity of the 2009 vintage — a dry, sunny year that gave these grapes their full, concentrated flavor.

Perfect to savor with a slow-cooked lamb tagine or a cozy night by the fire, this bottle invites you to pause and enjoy a truly special moment. Whether it’s a quiet celebration or an intimate dinner, it’s a timeless companion that promises to reward patience and elevate any occasion.

"Deep ruby. Seductive scents of ripe blackberry and boysenberry, singed plum and star anise, lifted by an intense floral topnote. Sweet, expansive dark fruit flavors show excellent concentration, with suggestions of licorice pastille and orange pith giving the wine an exotic character. Shows outstanding clarity and power on the extremely long finish, which is shaped by smooth, slow-building tannins."

"Tasted from bottle include the 2009 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve des Célestins, which was purchased stateside. It’s about as Provençal as they come and garrigue, kirsch liqueur, cured meats, saddle leather and licorice notes literally soar from this ruby-colored, full-bodied, sexy, heady Châteauneuf du Pape that has tons of glycerin and fat, sweet tannin and a great finish. Reminding me of a lighter weight 1990 with its sunny, sexy personality, it’s already hard to resist and should continue drinking nicely for 15+ years."

"Extraordinary richness and vibrancy in this throbbing cauldron of ripeness and spice but with some grainy tannin still in evidence. A wine to be sipped cautiously rather than swigged, so potent is it. Massive richness. No hurry whatsoever to drink this. 18/20 Points"
