A Conversation Between Trees, Written in Whiskey
Some whiskies are statements. This is a stanza.
Soft-spoken, but meant to last.
Writers' Tears has always been a whiskey for those who linger a little longer on the page. Who drink with curiosity rather than conquest. But Double Oak brings something new to the conversation - a collaboration, not just of distillers and casks, but of philosophies. The lilt of Irish malt and pot still spirit given structure, weight, and a second voice in French oak from Cognac. One brings brightness. The other, gravity. Together, they create something you don't drink for flavour alone - but for feel.
It opens quietly. There's no explosion of sweetness or spice. Just warmth - pear skin, vanilla, light syrup - followed by something slower, denser: toasted hazelnut, fig, cinnamon bark. You begin to realise this isn't just an Irish whiskey finished in French oak. It's an Irish whiskey listening to French oak.
The American barrels bring light - orchard fruit, honeyed malt, that hallmark Irish accessibility. But the Cognac casks darken the edges - in the best way. A little tannin. A little leather. A flicker of dried fruit and cigar box. Nothing loud. Nothing unkind. Just depth, earned by silence.
On the palate, it's clean but not simple. Creamy malt, spiced apricot, a curl of sweet grain, and the faint impression of wine-drenched wood. The French oak keeps it from wandering. The Irish distillate keeps it from brooding. It is balance, in every meaningful sense.
And the finish? It doesn't leave. It stays. Not as heat, but as memory. Like the warmth in your chest after a long overdue conversation with someone who truly understands you.
This is not a collector's bottle. It is a keeper's bottle.
You don't buy it because it's rare. You buy it because it feels true. Because some days need a whiskey that doesn't ask you to perform. Just to be still. And present. And a little open to the idea that something simple can still be extraordinary.
