Established in the 18th century under the name Gorce, this estate, nestled on the finest gravelly hillside in Cantenac, was already renowned as one of the Médoc's premier Second Growth vineyards well before the 1855 classification.
The "Plateau de Brane," comprising 30 hectares, undoubtedly ranks as one of Margaux AOC's most exceptional terroirs, alongside the gravelly hillsides of Margaux and Palmer.

Tasting Notes

This estate is distinguished by its remarkable elegance, finesse, and the production of silky wines—a true symbol of quality and excellence within the realm of prestigious wines. A quintessential addition to any Margaux collection." One of the favorites in Margaux. Clearly, one with the best potential, and a bright future. We love the finesse, the elegance and the fresh and delicate aromas that illustrate so well the appellation. Brane embodies the heritage of a family's passion for wine, passed down for 5 generations. In 2025, the Brane family celebrates its 100th anniversary.

2024, a vintage aligned with today’s trends. A difficult year, in which every decision counted: a wet spring, a dry summer, rain in September... It took precision and reactivity to get the best out of each plot. The result? A wine with real freshness and balance, low in alcohol, rich in fruit, and displaying great intensity. Thanks to rigorous work in the vineyard and the excellence of our terroir, we’ve been able to shape a vintage that lives up to our high standards. 2024, an expressive vintage today, with a bright future ahead of it.

Scores

"The vintage is well past its prime: elegant nose, harmonious body, delicate but very present tannins, a refined wine that should convince the usual detractors of Bordeaux wines. Perfect selection and vinification. - Bettane & Desseauve"

"The Grand Vin is based on 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc that included 11.3% of press, saw malolactic fermentation in barrel, and will spend 18 months in 80% new barrels. Its deeper ruby/purple hue is followed by a beautifully pure, layered, elegant, and medium-bodied Margaux that has both red and blue fruits, some violet, spicy wood, and cedar pencil nuances, fine, polished tannins, and outstanding length. This hit 12.6% alcohol with a pH of 3.53. - Jeb Dunnuck"

"Graceful, relaxed, lifted, and full of vitality – Château Brane-Cantenac 2024 has shed its usual composed restraint, becoming instead a wisp of breeze drifting over West Lake, softly caressing my cheek. Then come the subtle aromas: the clean sweetness of Chinese bayberry, the crisp freshness of pine, and the delicate fragrance of crabapple blossom. This vintage carries the highest acidity in recent years, yet unlike many high-acid vintages where the wine risks feeling hollow, here it becomes the very backbone that gives the wine its poised, upright structure. Allow me to pay tribute to Christophe and his team – without their unwavering dedication in the vineyards, without their meticulous craftsmanship in the cellar, such an exceptional creation in this challenging vintage would have been unimaginable. - Alexandre Ma"
