Tasting Notes

In 2018, a long term grower in who Franco and Sam had known for many years with well-established and highly sought after vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley that was planted in 1999 allowed us to buy a small parcel of grapes planted solely to MV6. With that the decision to make a DML Upper Yarra Valley Pinot Noir was made.

This wine shows all the beautiful characteristics of a wine made from fruit grown in a cool and mild Upper Yarra vintage, sourced from a mature and well cared for vineyard. This wine is quite light in colour but provides further proof that colour has no correlation with concentration and intensity of flavour. On the nose this wine shows poached strawberry, sour cherry, quince paste and a dash of redskin adding some subtle sweetness. The palate shows elegance and restraint, with pitch perfect concentration and intensity. The primary fruit nuances arewell backed by some forest floor and earthy undertones. The chalky tannin running through thiswine gives length and drive to the finish. Expect this wine to flesh out in the cellar over the next 2-10 years.

"So fine and pretty. All strawberries and dried flower perfume, a dash of sweet spice, subtle stony earthiness too. Light bodied, fresh and delicate, red cherry and ripe strawberry, fine emery tannin, maybe some fragrant basil, and a gentle but insistent drag of fine dusty tannin on a long cool finish. What a lovely wine this is. Should blossom with a few more years in bottle too."
