Tasting Notes
Burgundy Domaines such as this are a rare find – even more exceptional because the vineyard holdings here are almost entirely made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels in Vosne/Echézeaux.
Following the transition from Domaine François Lamarche to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, the estate remains firmly rooted in its historic vineyards, with a quiet evolution in approach. The Clos Vougeot holdings lie in the upper section of the historic walled vineyard, just below the Château — widely considered among the best-situated parcels in the Clos. Here, the soils are shallower and more limestone-rich, giving a finer, more structured style of Clos Vougeot.
The 2019 vintage was warm and generous, but with enough freshness to maintain balance. Lamarche’s Clos Vougeot shows both concentration and restraint — dark red fruit, savoury depth, and a firm mineral core. A grand cru with real presence, but one that favours elegance over power.

""A softly spicy and markedly floral nose blends aromas of red currant, raspberry and newly turned earth. There is very good underlying energy and punch to the succulent and seductive yet powerful and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that display a touch of warmth on the detailed, very firm, serious and austere finale. This is also potentially excellent, but this is definitely not a wine to engage in its early youth.""

""Lamarche has three parcels in the Clos de Vougeot. There is one up by the château by Mugneret-Gibourg; one in the middle near Petit Maupertuis and one along the road by Faiveley. The gentle extraction and long ageing have given us a wine with pronounced ripe cherry fruit and a mineral edge. The texture is firm and remarkably refined, with an elegant tannic structure that is perfectly balanced with the evocative fruit.""

""The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru does not deliver quite as much intensity and cohesion as the Echézeaux, offering leafy red berry fruit on the nose, which is quite muted at the moment and needs more presence. The palate has a little more chutzpah, displaying better grip than anticipated and a tightly wound, lightly spiced finish. It doesn’t quite make a statement like some other wines from the clos this vintage.""
