Tasting Notes
Peel Estate, founded in 1973 by winemaker Will Nairn, is a pioneering winery in Western Australia's Peel region. Located in Karnup, just south of Perth, the estate is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and its focus on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The estate's Old Vine Shiraz is crafted from vines planted in 1973, making them some of the oldest in the area.
The 2010 vintage of Peel Estate Old Vine Shiraz benefited from a warm growing season, allowing for optimal ripening of the grapes. The wine was fermented in open tanks and matured in a combination of French and American oak barrels, enhancing its complexity and structure.
In the glass, the 2010 Old Vine Shiraz presents a deep ruby hue. The nose offers aromas of dark berries, plum, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, showcasing flavours of ripe black fruits, chocolate, and a hint of oak. The wine's fine-grained tannins and balanced acidity contribute to a harmonious structure, leading to a long, persistent finish.
