Tasting Notes

Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay is a medium-bodied white wine that is made from a blend of Chardonnay grapes from cool-climate regions in Australia, including Adelaide Hills, Tumbarumba, and Tasmania. The wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels, which gives it a complex flavor profile with notes of lemon, lime, apple, pear, and vanilla. It has a minerally finish and a moderate acidity.

Bin 311 Chardonnay is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed on its own or with food. It pairs well with seafood, chicken, and pasta dishes. The wine is also known for its aging potential, so it can be enjoyed for several years after it is released.

Scores

96 / 100

"A third each of Tasmania, Adelaide Hills and Tumbarumba fruit, 'Baby Yattarna' is a belter this vintage, benefiting from a significant portion of wine originally destined for Yattarna and Reserve Bin A. The generosity of the latter's ripe nectarine and pistachio croissant richness grabs you first, but then cleansing acidity, oyster shell tang and bright lemon balm, grapefruit peel and lime juice perkiness take over, meaning your initial impression of opulence ends up as graceful and restrained. The eight months in French barrique (34% new) delivers roundness and mouthfeel more than toasty spice, and the pure fruit flavours linger long. A great buy this vintage, for drinking now or to cellar."

"A multi-regional blend, this vintage being from Tasmania, Tumbarumba and the Adelaide Hills. Eight months in French oak barriques, 34% new. Pale lemon in colour, with aromas dominated at this early stage by a fine citrussy character with a flinty line, a touch of oak, spices, white peaches and grapefruit pith, and a minerally backing, fine acidity runs the length. The wine is well focused and balanced, but does expand across the palate to a mid-length finish which lingers pleasantly. Drink over the next five to six years."

"Nice bright, laser-sharp Chardonnay with subtle nut and cream notes under a core of lemony fruit, with crystalline acidity. Fine and precise with lovely delicacy and weight. Very expressive"
