Tasting Notes
Timo Mayer’s Close Planted Pinot Noir stands out as one of the Yarra Valley’s most coveted wines.
Cultivated on his densely planted estate vineyard south of Healesville, these vines produce fruit with exceptional concentration and a refined structure.
The 2024 vintage, influenced by a warm yet well-balanced growing season, emphasizes elegance. The wine opens with notes of red cherry, wild strawberry, and a hint of spice, while fine tannins and a touch of new oak (the only Pinot in Timo’s collection to see this) add complexity without overpowering its natural finesse.

94 / 100"A little Gilbert Gottfried here – fun, edgy, a touch shrill, a bit heightened in energy, but well balanced in the end. Perhaps drinking this wine right now is ‘too soon’ too. Snappy, tart, tense and bright. Red cherry, cranberry drink, pomegranate juice, big dashes of white pepper, green capsicum, faint game meat leaving a little slosh and softness in the vibrancy inherent here. A sheath of sand-storm tannins lending a little tension, the mainstay that the wine feels tight then a little splash of juice to finish, with some powdery grip helping things out. Attractive drinking."
