Tasting Notes
The 2016 Borgogno Barolo 'Liste' is a distinguished expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo's most esteemed single vineyards. Borgogno, established in 1761, is among Piedmont's oldest wineries, known for its commitment to traditional winemaking practices and deep cellar aging.
The 'Liste' vineyard, situated near the village of Barolo, features calcareous and clay-rich marl soils, contributing to the wine's structure and longevity. The 2016 vintage benefited from favorable climatic conditions, resulting in wines of exceptional balance and elegance. Fermentation was spontaneous, using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, followed by a submerged cap maceration lasting 40 to 60 days. The wine was then aged for four years in large Slavonian oak casks, with an additional six months of bottle refinement.
In the glass, the 2016 'Liste' displays a deep ruby color with garnet highlights. The nose is complex, offering aromas of rose, woodland berries, pine forest, and herbs. On the palate, it delivers juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, star anise, and wild mint, all framed by tightly knit, polished tannins and fresh acidity. The wine is full-bodied, with a distinct flavor and noble tannins, leading to a long, persistent finish with balsamic tones.
This vintage is poised for long-term aging, with a drinking window extending from 2022 to 2036. It pairs exceptionally well with red meats, game, and matured cheeses, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts seeking an authentic and memorable Barolo experience.

""Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. A little closed on the nose hinting at sweet fruit and camphor, but really enticing. Compact, embryonic and closed but perfectly balanced. Polished, fine chewy tannins. Quite stunning, but way too young. 07/2020""
