Tasting Notes
Great wines are not born just anywhere. At Château d’Yquem, a rare equilibrium of climate and terroir creates a wine like no other. As the only estate classified as Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification, Yquem represents the pinnacle of Sauternes. The estate’s delicate and unique microclimate allows for the formation of noble rot, shaping a wine of remarkable elegance and complexity.
A legendary vintage, Château d’Yquem 2005 is a pinnacle of richness and longevity. The warm, dry conditions produced a deeply concentrated wine with layers of honeyed apricot, mango, and crème brûlée, accented by saffron and toasted almonds. The palate is unctuous yet perfectly balanced by crystalline acidity, ensuring a finish that lingers for minutes. With immense ageing potential, this vintage remains one of the most profound expressions of Yquem’s craftsmanship.

98+ / 100"The 2005 d'Yquem continues to drink beautifully today, evoking aromas of honey, saffron, vanilla pod, apricot, jasmine and orange peel. Full-bodied, sensual and juicy, it’s medium to full-bodied, with a seamless texture and a perfectly balanced palate, finishing fruity and racy. Although still a little closed and in a rather discreet phase, it has magnificent aging potential, and readers with bottles in their cellars should leave them to mature for 10 to 20 years. - Published: Nov 01, 2023 - Yohan Castaing"

"This treat offers everything you could want in a sweet wine with countless layers of honey-slathered, vanilla-tinted ripe, and overripe tropical fruits, roasted nuts, and apricots. Rich, luscious, and also bright, crisp, vibrant, and racy, this is so good now, that it is impossible to put down your glass. But is only going to get better from here with additional years of bottle age. That is part of the magic and allure of Chateau d'Yquem! Drink from 2022-2070. - Tasted: Jul 2022 - Jeff Leve"
