Tasting Notes
If there was ever a captain who refused to lose hope, it was Eric. At the helm of Château Lafite Rothschild, he braced for what was set to be a testing vintage. Eric and his seasoned Pauillac crew had navigated many challenges before—but never anything quite like this. From April through June, they waged a relentless battle against mildew and harsh weather. There were setbacks, missed opportunities, and constant adjustments—until a turning point arrived on 25th June. Calm, temperate conditions finally prevailed, offering the vines a chance to recover and the team a moment to regroup.
By late August, the vineyard was thriving, with berry tastings from the plateau revealing vibrant, flavour-packed fruit—a reward for enduring the turbulent start to the season. Harvesting began on 23rd September with Merlot from Pointon and Gravette, moving swiftly to dodge incoming rain. The finest Cabernet Sauvignon was picked in early October, with the final grapes brought in by the 7th. With short fermentations, gentle extractions and precise pressings, Olivier’s winemaking team now guides this vintage through the cellar with refined skill and finesse.

Scores
99 / 100"96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot What freshness and intensity in this bouquet dedicated to the vines, the terroirs, and the precision and resilience of the teams who brought it to life! The nuances of blackcurrant mixed with notes of blueberry and elderberry speak volumes about the complexity. A sort of vegetal freshness that evokes freshly picked flower stems and reminds me of the aromas encountered during vinification in a vat room. “The grapes were so good in the vineyard that it was difficult to imagine anything other than a good result,” emphasizes Eric Kohler. The wine reveals itself serenely, silently, almost humbly. He never liked to make noise; he preferred melodies, perhaps oscillating between Chopin and Mozart, but with Wagner as conductor! Imagine the scene… but above all, observe the result. The wine is magnificent. It's neither an opera nor a symphony, it's just Lafite! What a score dedicated to the love of wine. A great Lafite, once again! 2030-2054"

"How is it possible that there is such calm? The 2024 Lafite completely shattered my expectations for the vintage. With its calm and detachment, it blends harmoniously with the understated character of the vintage. It is the kind of serenity that only true harmony between man and nature provides. No flamboyant fruit, no boisterous spices, just a few brushstrokes and traces of graphite, painting a scene of cool restraint and sublime clarity. On the palate, it enters smoothly and smoothly, like silk gliding across the tongue. Elusive at first, it lands on the palate with the quiet force of a Tai Chi thrust—silent, but with lingering aftershocks. Tasting it evokes a poetic verse: “The mountain takes shape in the breath, between presence and absence.” This wine doesn’t rely on vivacity or brilliance; its brilliance lies in its subtlety."
