93 / 100"The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru opens in the glass with notions of dark berries, vine smoke, baking chocolate and grilled meats, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and lively palate that’s suave and elegant. Sadly, only one barrel was produced."

Tasting Notes
Created in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père et Fils has throughout its history established one of the most beautiful vineyards in Burgundy, by purchasing vines on the best terroirs. In 1811, the company name “Bouchard Père et Fils” was made official; throughout the 19th century, buyouts continued and during the 20th century, the Bouchards focused mainly on exploiting their estate rather than expanding it. From 1969, the policy of selected purchases resumed. In 1995, the Bouchard family passed the torch to another historic family, this one from Champagne: the Maison de Champagne Henriot. The new team takes charge of the destiny of the vineyard and completely regenerates the house, right down to the style of the wines. Recently, in 2022, the Artémis group (investment fund of Francois Pinault, notably owner of Clos de Tart, Château Latour, etc.) bought the house. In recent years, its rating has continued to rise and it is among the best Burgundian merchants; some of its wines have even managed to establish themselves as the greatest in its entire history. The vineyard has 130 hectares (and as much area for grape purchases) including 12 hectares of Grands Crus and 74 hectares of Premiers Crus. With nearly 50 hectares spread over 23 climats, Bouchard Père & Fils has been the largest owner in Beaune Premier Cru for several generations. On the slope of the village of Flagey-Echezeaux, this Cote de Nuits Grand Cru vineyard blooms, producing wines of rich earth and moss flavours with intensity and sappiness. Although this wine has a soft and silky texture, it is made to age for a significant amount of time in the bottle.
