Tasting Notes
Sourced from vines with an average age of 40 years. Matured for 10 months in 10% new French oak.
Aroma; immediately pretty and classically white burgundy- red apple, white flowers, nectarine and citrus.
Classically white Burgundy. elegantly mineral with some red apple and nectarine fruits, citrus, blossoms and fresh minerality. Little hint of oak and lees on the palate gives texture, depth and weight. Exceptional quality, purity and elegance.
Tipped as Puligny-Montrachet’s ‘domaine to watch’ in the 1980s by Jasper Morris, Romaric Chavy has since taken over his father's estate and wasted no time in staking a claim as one of Burgundy’s next winemaking stars. Having ended his father’s practice of selling grapes to negociants, and investing in a spacious new winery, Romaric is continually making improvements to Chavy-Chouet’s hugely impressive range. ‘Les Femelottes’ – from a 40-year-old, single vineyard plot lying within Puligny itself – is round and supple in apricot and citrus. Classy, dependable, and still (whisper it) affordable white Burgundy through-and-through.

Scores
93 / 100"I love the progression of the intensity of the bouquet, starting with all the fragrance of white flowers like hawthorn, followed by the crunchiness of Kazi red apples, the juiciness of mandarins, the pulpiness of nectarines, the tropical medley of pineapple and guava, to conclude with the light toastiness of pinenuts and bleached almonds. The palate has an intriguing concentration of fruity and sweet spice flavours, a decent presence that translates into a mid-palate weight and a good aromatic length. It is a midway between “sunshine in the glass” and French savoury class."

"The fruit here is sourced from older vines, averaging forty years of age, and the wine spent ten months maturing in French oak, 10% of which is new. This is from a single vineyard plot within Puligny. A deep gold colour, this has a gentle nuttiness on the nose with mandarin, stonefruits, herbs, grapefruit pith and a touch of honeycomb near the finish. The attractive flavours are well supported by a supple texture and a delicate lingering finish. The oak has largely been swallowed by the fruit. A wine of poise and balance, there is a lot to like here. Enjoy this over the next three to five years."
