Tasting Notes
Burgundy Domaines such as this are a rare find – even more exceptional because the vineyard holdings here are almost entirely made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels in Vosne/Echézeaux.
Lamarche’s Clos Vougeot parcel lies in the upper portion of the vineyard, just below the Château, where thinner, stony soils tend to yield wines of greater finesse and definition compared to the denser styles often associated with the lower sections. This is an historic, walled grand cru that demands careful site selection to shine, and the Lamarche holding is particularly well-placed.
The 2011 vintage produced lighter, more aromatic wines than the vintages on either side of it. Lamarche’s Clos Vougeot from this year is a more elegant take on the cru — lifted red fruit, soft spice, and a refined tannic frame. A graceful expression of Clos Vougeot that has entered its drinking window with poise and balance.

Scores
93 / 100""An adroit application of oak frames the exceptionally fresh earthy red currant and plum suffused nose. There is a lovely restraint to the markedly intricate and precise medium-bodied flavors that display moderate austerity on the impressively persistent and mouth coating finish. Patience will be required though this should not be unduly forbidding""

""A little deeper ruby than most. Creamy, almost buttery nose. Lots of red fruit flavours and then poised acidity and good balance on the finish. Appetising grainy nose. Good combination of fruit and acidity. Great pace to this wine. Long. Spicy. 18.5/20 points.""
