Tasting Notes
Pierre-Vincent Girardin’s ascent through the ranks of Burgundy has been swift, and nowhere is his talent more evident than in his rare and limited bottling from Richebourg — one of the most storied Grand Cru vineyards in all of Vosne-Romanée. A site synonymous with depth, sensuality, and age-worthy power, Richebourg demands precision in the cellar and respect in the vineyard — both of which Girardin brings in abundance.
This 2020 Grand Cru is sourced from a privileged section of Richebourg, where old vines dig deep into limestone and clay soils to produce fruit of staggering intensity. The wine is fermented with gentle extraction to preserve the finesse of Pinot Noir, then aged in custom 456-liter barrels crafted to soften the impact of new oak and allow the vineyard’s voice to shine. Unfined and unfiltered, it is bottled with purity at the forefront.
In the glass, it is both majestic and composed — aromas of crushed raspberries, black cherry, violets, and exotic spices unfold gradually, anchored by hints of forest floor and incense. The palate is seamless and layered, with satin tannins and a long, mineral-driven finish that echoes the wine’s noble origins.
This is not only a brilliant interpretation of Richebourg — it is a vivid expression of a new generation of Burgundy: confident, precise, and deeply rooted in place.
