TASTING NOTES

Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2023 showcases the elegance and complexity that the renowned Yarra Valley is celebrated for. Crafted from 100% hand-picked grapes, this Chardonnay is a testament to meticulous winemaking and the unique terroir of one of Australia's premier wine regions.

The grapes are gently chilled overnight before undergoing whole bunch pressing, ensuring delicate extraction of flavors. The juice is then fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts in 500L French oak puncheons, 15% of which are new oak, imparting subtle layers of vanilla and spice while maintaining the wine’s vibrant fruit character. With only about 10% of the wine undergoing malolactic fermentation, the finish remains fresh and crisp, balanced by lees stirring that adds texture and complexity.

Recognized as one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World, Giant Steps consistently delivers wines that capture the essence of the Yarra Valley’s cool climate. The 2023 vintage reflects the region’s ideal growing conditions, producing Chardonnay with bright acidity, refined minerality, and expressive stone fruit notes. This wine beautifully expresses the distinctiveness of celebrated single vineyard sites, offering a harmonious blend of citrus, white peach, and subtle oak nuances.

Critically acclaimed, the Giant Steps Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2023 has earned 95 points from James Halliday, highlighting its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. This Chardonnay is a sophisticated choice for those seeking a premium wine with depth, elegance, and a true sense of place.

Experience a wine that perfectly balances tradition and innovation, crafted to elevate any occasion with its refined palate and enduring finish.

Honeycrisp apple skin, lemon zest and green plum. Winter melon and starfruit. Plumes of talc powder, pomice and honeysuckle. Plenty of white delicate florals and a blush of nectarine. Intoxicating acidity and a kefir creaminess on the finish. A spray of saline and oak appears in its round shapes rather than toasty notes. Alive with energy and creeping unsuspecting power. Drinking well now and will cellar 3-5 years, a great wine for the bite of calamari or richness of abalone. - Shanteh Wale

An even split of upper and lower Yarra fruit. Whole-bunch pressed and wild fermented in 15% new French puncheons. Around 25% mlf. A very bright green gold. Attractive scents of ripe white pears and nectarines, lemon curd and just the right amount of flint. Packs a punch on the saline, gently textured, gently chewy palate. Great stuff and the perfect entrée to the year's superb lineup of single-vineyard chardonnays.
