TASTING NOTES

Henschke Keyneton Euphonium is a masterful blend that celebrates the rich terroir of South Australia’s Eden and Barossa Valleys. Crafted from shiraz vines aged up to 50 years, this wine harmoniously combines the depth of shiraz with the elegance of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc sourced from carefully selected vineyards in both regions.

This exquisite composition reflects a legacy steeped in history and culture. Named after the Barossa hills village of Keyneton, a vibrant musical hub established by pastoralist Joseph Keynes in 1842, the wine honors the Henschke Family Brass Band. Founded in 1888 by Paul Gotthard Henschke and later led by his grandson Paul Alfred Henschke, the band featured distinctive wind instruments such as the B flat euphonium, cornet, and E flat clarinet. The euphonium itself, crafted by the renowned Zimmermann factory of Leipzig, Germany in the late 19th century, symbolizes the harmony and craftsmanship embodied in this wine.

Key Highlights:

  • Exceptional Blend: A refined mix of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc delivering complexity and balance.
  • Old Vine Excellence: Shiraz grapes from vines up to 50 years old contribute concentrated flavors and structure.
  • Consistent Acclaim: Scores 94+ points annually, reflecting its outstanding quality and aging potential.

The Eden and Barossa Valleys are renowned for their unique climates and soils, which contribute to the wine’s rich fruit character and layered texture. The warm days and cool nights of these regions allow the grapes to develop intense aromas and vibrant acidity, resulting in a wine that is both powerful and elegant.

Henschke Keyneton Euphonium is a wine of distinction, perfect for those seeking a premium red that combines tradition, artistry, and exceptional winemaking. Its silky tannins and complex palate make it an ideal companion for fine dining, special occasions, or thoughtful cellaring.
