Tasting Notes
Massoni is a boutique winery located in Victoria's Pyrenees region, known for its commitment to producing premium wines that reflect the unique terroir of the area. The winery has garnered recognition for its consistent quality, with accolades including multiple Silver and Bronze Ribbons from The Real Review's Wine 360 Awards, and a Top Rank award, highlighting its standing among Australia's esteemed wine producers.
The 2004 vintage of Massoni Sangiovese showcases the winery's dedication to traditional winemaking techniques. Sourced from select vineyards in the Pyrenees, the grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness to ensure balanced acidity and flavour concentration. Fermentation was conducted in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal's vibrant fruit characteristics, followed by maturation in seasoned oak barrels to enhance complexity without overpowering the wine's natural profile.
In the glass, the 2004 Massoni Sangiovese presents a medium ruby hue. The nose offers aromas of fresh cherries, subtle spice, and earthy undertones. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, featuring flavours of red berries and a hint of savoury herbs. The wine's balanced acidity and fine tannins contribute to a harmonious structure, making it an excellent accompaniment to Italian cuisine, particularly dishes featuring tomato-based sauces or grilled meats.
