93 / 100"Always jump at the chance to try Mike Press’s latest offering. The long run continues. Once again we have superb value on offer here. The fruit is a svelte mix of red and black cherry, the oak is both vanillin and spicy, there’s a slip of anise and a burst of clove. Both the oak and fruit here have as much or more class than usual; this is the best release in a few years. A general smoky, cedary character positively pervades. It has all the hallmarks of Mike Press’s red wines but then, it seems just a touch more refined than previous. Not a bad thing, not a bad thing at all. If you have enjoyed Mike Press Shiraz in the past, you’re in for a bit of a treat with this one."

"This is the kind of vintage I admire at Mike Press, calm, intriguing and characterful. It's spicy, peppery, black-fruited, violet-fragranced and full of the personality of this high altitude vineyard, captured by now 19 year old vines. Caramel and milk chocolate oak pokes out on release, as it always does, but just a few hours of air is all it takes to subside as the fruit emerges. There is presence and body to this vintage, yet it carries its cool climate credentials confidently, with fine-boned , beautifully textured tannins and a long, elegant, pepper-accented finish. Patience."

Tasting Notes
This Shiraz has developed a loyal following of customers and along the way has collected trophies and medals.
These vines were cloned from now 90 year old vines situated at Springton, and are now 19 years old. The conditions of 2016 vintage have produced another great Shiraz.
Loaded with intense fruit flavours, it is drinking well now but will age gracefully for years to come.
