Tasting Notes
A gentler spirit than Legend, Penderyn’s Myth is all silk and ease — like a warm breeze across soft meadows. It trades intensity for charm, boldness for grace, but make no mistake — there’s real character underneath its softness.
On the nose, it’s creamy and floral, like custard tart and elderflower. There’s citrus peel here too — lemon sherbet and a twist of lime — alongside the delicate aroma of green banana and sugared almonds. It’s almost confectionary at first, but never artificial. A touch of malted biscuit grounds the sweetness, while faint whiffs of fresh hay and white blossom keep it fresh.
The palate is airy and smooth. There’s a gentle sweetness — baked apple, marzipan, and sponge cake — lifted by light citrus and the faintest edge of dried ginger. It’s soft but not flabby. The alcohol is beautifully integrated, and the oak influence subtle but shaping: a touch of vanilla pod, the lightest toast, a whisper of clove.
Mid-palate, a little herbaceousness comes through — lemon verbena, maybe a flash of mint. The finish is short but complete, with a cleansing note of malt and fading fruit.
An ideal beginner’s malt, but also one for experienced palates seeking something reflective and refined. A dram for late morning or early evening. Try it with a slice of almond cake or on its own when quiet moments call.
