Tasting Notes

It is generous and supple whilst soft and approachable upon release. An ultra-rich, heady, mouth-filling Shiraz that combines balanced acidity and mid-palate texture.

The Coach House vineyard was the first estate vineyard purchased by Two Hands back in 2002.  The vineyard was first planted in the early 1990s and now at 30 years of age, the Shiraz vines are really starting to reach maturity. Situated at 256m above sea level, the vines have their roots dug into classic Greenock red-brown earth which is high iron rich soil with a high clay content over a base geology of limestone and sandstone.

The wine produced from this site is always rich in fruit showing shades of blackberry with tannins that are regal and firm. Historically this wine was labelled under its own estate bottling called Branson Coach House Block. In 2006, this became part of the Two Hands portfolio with its very own Single Vineyard wine. Since then Coach House Block has been the backbone of this series.

Scores

95 / 100

"The 2021 Coach House Block Seppeltsfield Road Greenock Shiraz is huge, firm and savory. The fruit speaks of blueberries and licorice, the tannins are earthy and unyielding, and the finish is minty—like spearmint oil spritzed onto roasted black berries. It also has notes of cracked fennel seeds and roast beef crust. It's a lovely wine. (Coming back to this again, at the end of the tasting, this is the most complete, concentrated and balanced wine of the lot. I can't help but think that these wines just need so much treatment: decanting, aeration, etc., for them to come alive. My points have come up from the original score.) 14.3% alcohol, sealed under Diam."
