Scores
17 / 20"Deep cassis, and dark forest fruits with a spiced note. Nice bloody note cuts through the wood-smoke, camp-fire notes, plum and prune and then finishes with a layered, deep, smoke-intense, wild-animal-infused finish. Lots going on here. Ripe, textured and long."

"Michael has been produced since the mid-1950s. It’s named after David Wynn’s son. The 2019 release is ripe, svelte and fine-grained. It has both finesse and balance, which is something given the boldness of the fruit here. Raspberries, graphite, bay leaves and cherry-pie flavours make a clear, bold statement on quality. There’s a gentle creaminess at play too but long gone are the days when Michael Shiraz is awash with oak; this release is no doubt polished but you have to go looking for the oak, such is its integration. You could keep this wine, in the right conditions of course, for 20 or 30 (or likely more) years and it would still be singing."
