TASTING NOTES

Domaine Dujac Les Beaux Monts Vosne Romanee Premier Cru 2019 exemplifies the elegance and complexity that Burgundy enthusiasts seek. Crafted by a family-run estate since 1968, this Premier Cru vineyard benefits from Dujac's signature approach of vinifying with stems, adding a distinctive perfumed complexity and refined structure to the wine.

The 2019 vintage showcases the remarkable balance and finesse characteristic of Vosne Romanee, a region celebrated for producing some of the world's most expressive Pinot Noir. High whole-bunch fermentation combined with indigenous yeasts enhances the wine's tension and length, while careful oak ageing imparts subtle depth without overpowering the delicate fruit profile.

Critically acclaimed, this wine earned an impressive 96 points from Neal Martin, underscoring its exceptional quality and aging potential. The layered aromas of red berries, floral notes, and earthy undertones unfold seamlessly on the palate, revealing a wine of impressive precision and elegance.

This bottling is a testament to Domaine Dujac's commitment to traditional Burgundian winemaking methods paired with innovative techniques that elevate the expression of terroir. The result is a refined, complex Premier Cru that offers both immediate appeal and the capacity to develop beautifully over time.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru has a perfumed and enticing bouquet with brambly black fruit, black truffle and Earl Grey aromas gently wafting from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins. The whole bunch influence is discrete here but lends an attractive white pepper and clove note towards the finish that fans out wonderful whilst maintaining freshness and tension. Just outflanked by the Aux Malconsorts, nevertheless, this is a brilliant Les Beaux Monts. (NM)

Produced from Dujac’s 0.73ha of Beaux Monts. The whole cluster ferment and new casks here have given smoky, dark and savoury aromas on the nose, and a dense feel on the palate, with lovely depth and firmness, before a finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate. Marvellous quality and should age well. Drinking Window 2024 - 2049. (Charles Curtis MW)

Notes of cherries, wild berries, burning embers, exotic spices and orange rind introduce Dujac's 2019 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts, a medium to full-bodied, lively and precise wine with a pretty core of fruit, fine tannins and a bright, mineral finish. This higher-altitude site appears to have turned in a very strong performance this year. The 2019 vintage is a terrific success for Domaine Dujac. Perfumed, concentrated and vibrant, with beautifully refined tannins and bright fruit tones despite the warmth and sunshine of the vintage, I'd be happy to own any or all of the cuvees reviewed here. The 2018s, revisited in bottle, have also lived up to my high expectations: More overtly muscular and structured than the 2019s, these are serious wines built for the cellar, but their potential is evident and anyone opening bottles 20 or 30 years from now will be delighted to own them. Of course, readers will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation in (for the most part) concrete vats with a predominance of whole clusters and elevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Remond. Since Jeremy Seysses took the reins from father Jacques in 2001, there have been evolutions: Inspired by Christophe Roumier, Jeremy(more...)

Bright purple, slightly reductive, slightly stemmy, but these are passing phases which will end up as adding complexity. More oak, some tannins, this will come together later. A touch of liquorice as well. Plenty of energy, just very backward. Tasted: November 2020.

An exuberantly spicy and ultra-floral suffused nose of plum, dark currant and sandalwood is trimmed in a subtle but not invisible touch of oak. The super-sleek, intense and wonderfully delineated flavors are supported by very fine-grained tannins on the overtly mineral-driven, youthfully austere and beautifully long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This too is excellent. Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!
