The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques has a very succinct bouquet, very pure with blood orange-infused, mineral-rich red berry fruit that just shimmers with energy. The palate is very well balanced with filigree tannin, extremely detailed, precise and focused, fanning out wonderfully with fabulous intensity and sophistication. Oh yes! This hits the spot and is surely one of the best articulations of this fantabulous vineyard in 2014.

Healthy dark red. Sexy spicy lift to the aromas of red and black cherry, licorice and minerals. Quite dry and saline; less expressive today than the Combe aux Moine but richer, deeper and more tactile. In a floral, somewhat cooler style, with black fruit, mineral and violet flavors building steadily as the wine opens in the glass. Finishes with outstanding energy and saline minerality. The tannins are utterly smooth but this wine will need extended cellaring

*Sweet Spot* This is at once cooler and more elegant with its airy assortment of pure red and blue Pinot fruit, floral, spice, earth and tea scents. There is fine intensity and excellent delineation to the pungently mineral-inflected and refined medium weight flavors where the sense of refinement is enhanced by the super fine-grained tannins, all wrapped in an explosively long and perfectly balanced finale. In a word, marvelous.
