TASTING NOTES

Secret Deal Reserve McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022 is a distinguished expression from a 6th generation iconic South Australian winery, directly connected to the pioneering "father of the South Australian wine industry," one of the region's first settlers in 1850. This heritage is reflected in every bottle, showcasing the rich tradition and expertise of McLaren Vale winemaking.

Visually captivating with a deep, inky purple core and vibrant ruby rim, this premium Shiraz entices the senses with an intense bouquet of dark fruits such as blackberry, plum, and black cherry. These fruit notes are elegantly intertwined with layers of dark chocolate, vanilla, and exotic spices. Subtle hints of cedar, licorice, and eucalyptus add complexity and depth, creating a multi-dimensional aromatic profile.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, revealing a luscious core of ripe blackberries and juicy plums. The flavor profile is enhanced by nuanced layers of mocha, black pepper, and sweet spices. Its beautifully structured palate is supported by velvety tannins and well-integrated oak, delivering a balanced and seamless mouthfeel that speaks to the quality of the vintage and terroir.

The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, spice, and a subtle smokiness. This elegant yet powerful Shiraz perfectly captures the quintessential characteristics of McLaren Vale wines, known for their remarkable depth, complexity, and intensity.

A superb Shiraz from a great vintage in McLaren Vale, the wine spent twenty months maturing in a mix of new and older French oak. A wine which screams class.

This is a near opaque maroon with a dark purple rim. A gorgeously ripe nose, this is all mocha, chocolate, coffee beans and cassis. There are flavours of dried herbs here, with blackberries and mulberries, plums, cocoa powder and deftly handled oak. Great extraction with fine balance, bright acidity and serious length. Supple, silky tannins tie everything together with a lingering finish. A stunning McLaren Vale Shiraz which has ten to fifteen years ahead of it. 96.

There’s McLaren Vale royalty behind this wine. It was founded back in 1980 by Geoff Hardy and is now under the control of Bec Hardy. It is quintessential McLaren Vale shiraz. Rich and concentrated opulence from the start with a plush blackberry and plum-infused palate that powers effortlessly to a very long finish. Smooth succulent and delicious, a cracking wine.

This is immediately enticing on the nose, showing black and purple fruit richness, warm spice, toasty oak and vanilla aromas with a seductive floral overtone. The palate delivers outstanding concentration and depth, wonderfully enhanced by velvety texture and beautifully melded tannins. Superbly composed and expressed with splendid structure and refinement.
