TASTING NOTES

Yarra Yering ‘Agincourt’ Cabernet Malbec 2022 is a masterful blend sourced from the iconic Agincourt block, where Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 1995 and Malbec vines from 1990 thrive in one of Yarra Valley’s most sheltered microclimates. This vintage showcases the vineyard’s unique terroir, delivering a wine that is both aromatic and richly expressive.

Hand-harvested with meticulous care, the Cabernet undergoes berry sorting while the Malbec is bunch sorted to ensure optimal fruit quality. The Cabernet is destemmed, berry sorted, and gently crushed into open fermenters, with 5% undergoing whole bunch fermentation to enhance the wine’s perfume and lift. Malbec is destemmed and hand-plunged twice daily, preserving its vibrant energy and crunch. Maturation takes place in French Bordeaux-shaped barrels with just 15% new oak, allowing the juicy fruit character to shine through while adding subtle complexity.

This wine is defined by its signature perfume, bursting with lifted aromas of violets, bramble, and redcurrant. On the palate, bright cranberry, mulberries, and blueberries mingle with fresh nettle notes that provide a leafy lift. Clove spices add depth, harmonizing with vibrant acidity and elegant fruit drive. The Malbec component injects a lively texture and invigorating crunch, resulting in a wine of remarkable fruit purity and balance.

Festooned with minty berries, tobacco and gentle leafy, floral aromas which amass over the beautifully structured palate, with its fine grained tannins, energising acidity and tantalising blue fruit finish. Resplendent in its vitality and verve.

Scores

96/100

Matured in French barriques (15% new). A medium deep, bright crimson. Fragrant with aromas of damson plums, blackcurrants, cedar and violets. Medium bodied, this elegantly wrought and persistent wine finishes with very fine-grained and suave tannins suggesting this will age gracefully over the next six to eight years.
