TASTING NOTES

Yarra Yering Light Dry Red Pinot Shiraz 2024 is a masterful blend showcasing the elegance and complexity of two iconic varietals. Crafted from 60% Pinot Noir sourced from vines planted in 1981 and 40% Shiraz from the renowned Waterloo block established in 1995, this wine embodies the best of cool climate Australian winemaking.

Each grape variety is fermented separately, with the Pinot Noir undergoing whole berry fermentation and the Shiraz utilizing whole bunches. Both components mature for 9 months in French oak barriques, allowing subtle oak nuances to integrate seamlessly before blending.

This wine presents an exotic floral fragrance complemented by a vibrant, expansive palate. Aromas of blue violet and summer pudding burst forward, delivering mixed berry fruits that are both fresh and inviting. The palate is light yet plush, featuring soft, fruity layers balanced by a delicate smoky grip from the use of stalks. This imparts a refined tannin structure and a driving finish that speaks to the wine’s finesse and balance.

The harmonious interplay between the perfume, silk, and spice of the Pinot Noir and the structured, cool climate Shiraz creates a wine of remarkable depth and elegance. Recognized with 96 points by the Halliday Wine Companion, it reflects the expertise of Sarah Crowe, Australia’s Best Winemaker of 2017.

Originating from the Yarra Valley, a region celebrated for its cool climate and diverse terroir, this vintage benefits from ideal growing conditions that enhance aromatic intensity and varietal purity. The 2024 release is designed to be enjoyed young, offering immediate pleasure with its fresh fruit profile and balanced complexity.

Scores

96/100

This is 60/40% pinot (whole-berry ferment)/shiraz (100% whole bunches) blended prior to bottling. A vibrant crimson purple. Uber aromatic with its aromas of bright red fruits, musk and floral notes. Loads of flavour and a touch of grip on the delicious, medium-bodied and impeccably balanced palate. Approachable now but no problems cellaring this either over the next 3–5 years.
