TASTING NOTES

Campbells Isabella Rare Topaque 375mL is a distinguished fortified wine that embodies the rich heritage and unparalleled quality of Rutherglen’s winemaking tradition. Displaying a deep mahogany brown color with subtle olive hues, this exquisite Topaque offers a complex aromatic profile featuring lifted notes of toffee, honey, and cold tea, creating a signature character unique to Rutherglen.

On the palate, it is luxuriously lush, presenting full honeyed flavors balanced by intricate rancio nuances that elegantly offset the natural sweetness. This beautifully decadent wine showcases the mastery of Campbells, one of Rutherglen’s original producers since 1870, who have perfected their craft through generations using a modified solera system. This aging method ensures consistency and depth, with the rare solera containing base wines over 70 years old, making each bottle a true collector’s treasure.

Rutherglen’s climate, soils, and grape varieties contribute to the exceptional richness and complexity of its fortified wines, earning international acclaim as “the world’s richest wines.” Campbells Isabella Rare Topaque stands out as a world-class expression, highly rated with 98 points by renowned critic James Halliday and praised by Jeni Port for its elegance and purity of fruit flavors.

Ideal for savoring on its own or pairing with rich desserts and fine cheeses, this rare Topaque is a testament to the artistry and heritage of Australian fortified wines. Experience the depth, complexity, and timeless quality that only Campbells can deliver.

A taste of pure decadence. Dark tawny in colour with the rising scent of warm sticky date pudding, malt extract, honey-rich fruitcake, and lifted, toffeed walnuts. Luxurious, velvety mouthfeel with rich, concentrated flavours that keep going on and on and on. World class. 375ml.

Dark amber in color and going greenish at the rim, the basis of this wine is clearly old stocks going back well over 60 years. It's full-bodied, unctuous and superrich, oozing with molasses and rancio character, but balanced by citrusy notes. The finish is incredibly sweet and long, coating the mouth with coffee-like essences that linger for minutes.

The NV ‘Isabella’ Rare Tokay offers a deep brown color with the slightest edge of green. The nose is complex with earthy loam and girolle aromas giving way to treacle, toasted hazelnuts and toffee. The palate is unbelievably sweet and viscous but there is also jaw-clenching acidity that perfectly balances that extreme unctuousness. Very long in the finish with layers of nut and spices really developing for those that can actually wait before taking another sip of this gorgeous nectar.
These fortified wines are all bottled to drink now. The extended solera aging process has rendered them relatively stable to changes and they can be stored for a good number of years.
