TASTING NOTES

Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2011 is the wine you reach for when you want a bold, unforgettable experience that still feels effortlessly elegant. Born from the volcanic soils of Northern Rhône’s Cornas appellation, this Syrah brings a beautiful balance of power and grace that commands attention without overwhelming.

On the nose and palate, expect deep, dark fruit like ripe blackberries and plum wrapped in layers of pepper, smoked herbs, and mineral whispers—think lush and plush with a smoky edge that keeps things interesting. Its velvety tannins and long, spicy finish make each sip a total knockout, showing off that signature Cornas intensity with a refined, gourmet touch.

This is your go-to for savoring a special evening with rich, hearty dishes like game, braised meats, or a cheese board that’s just as serious as the wine. With 96 points from Wine Spectator and sourced from a premium private cellar, it’s a stellar pick that perfectly captures the 2011 vintage’s ideal weather and impeccable ripeness. Let Domaine Auguste Clape be part of your next memorable moment, delivering a wine that’s both steeped in tradition and ready to impress.

Densely packed, with fine, juicy acidity running throughout, this sports intense boysenberry and raspberry fruit along with plenty of bramble, black pepper and chalk notes, grounded in terroir and exhibiting good cut. Shows a lovely echo of tar and chestnut leaf through the finish.

The 2011 Cornas is drinking beautifully right now, 10 years after the vintage. Nicely developed notes of leather and faint herbal flourishes accent redcurrants on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is plush and velvety, capped off by a long, elegant finish.

Complex wine, from a fruit-driven vintage, this has always been quite open and approachable. The palate has a firmish tannin frame with red fruit at the core. Plush. Some earthy and woody savoriness coming through. Drink or hold

The 2011 Clape Cornas shows much darker character than its 2012 sibling, offering powerful cassis, black currant and licorice flavors that unfurl very slowly with air. At almost a decade old, this is still on the youthful side, with round but present tannins adding framework and closing grip. Right now, I slightly prefer the elegance of the 2012.

Not an easy vintage. It was cold to start with, then the end of August was very hot, causing some blockages in maturity, and a large crop. It's beginning to take on some smoky notes - smoked meats and bonfires. Medium-bodied and drops away a little soon, not as complex as some vintages. Good acidity and sense of freshness, if not the greatest depth compared to other recent vintages
