There is an abundance of Chablis character to the mildly exotic white fruit, floral, pear, spice and mineral reduction aromas. The palate impression is more open than it usually is at this stage with impressive richness to the generously proportioned middle weight plus flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the stony, balanced, harmonious and highly persistent finish. Like the Valmur this is an overtly powerful wine that should also reward mid-term cellaring yet because of the excellent richness and mid-palate density, it should be approachable young.

The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has a very precise and commanding bouquet with intense citrus fruit and mineralite - hints of orange blossom and a daring touch of licorice developing with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant, quite steely on the entrance but fanning out wonderfully toward the citric finish. Perhaps like last year, it is the Valmur that really shines at the moment and might be Raveneau's wine of the vintage. (NM)

The 2013 Clos is another very fine result in this vintage, offering up a lovely bouquet of apple, orange, flinty minerality, white flowers, beeswax and incipient notes of lemon oil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and again, really pretty minerally for a 2013, with good acids, fine focus and grip and a long, classy finish. I am so accustomed to young vintages of the Raveneaus’ Clos being almost hermetically sealed at this point in its evolution, but the 2013 is really going to be a forward vintage for this great wine and will not demand too much time in the cellar before it really starts to drink with style and grace. This is not quite as classic and pure as the Valmur in this vintage, but it is another lovely wine. 92+

Pale, bright yellow. Discreet, high-pitched aromas of lime and spices are less perfumed than those of the Valmur. Juicy, penetrating and youthfully imploded, but without quite the texture or energy of the Valmur. Finishes broad and a touch dry, in need of time in the cellar. (ST) 91+
