TASTING NOTES

Rippon Gewurztraminer 2023 is a rare expression of this aromatic variety, showcasing exceptional poise and exotic beauty. Crafted from maturing vines in Wanaka, this wine reflects the unique terroir with remarkable grace and clarity. The combination of sunny days and cold nights in this region ensures a full, rich perfume balanced by bright freshness, making it a standout Gewurztraminer.

This vintage benefits from a truly favourable year for Gewurztraminer, allowing the grapes to develop intense varietal character. The winemaking process is meticulous: slow, whole bunch pressings, wild ferments, and extended lees contact contribute to a subtle, delicate, and perfectly balanced wine with pinpoint precision.

Rippon is proud to be Certified Demeter Biodynamic, reflecting their commitment to sustainable and holistic vineyard practices that enhance the expression of the land. Since its release, this wine has matured beautifully in bottle, gaining complexity and depth without losing its elegant freshness.

Ideal for those who appreciate refined white wines with a distinctive aromatic profile, the Rippon Gewurztraminer 2023 offers layers of exotic spice, floral notes, and a crisp finish. It is a true reflection of Wanaka’s cool climate and biodynamic philosophy, making it a sophisticated choice for wine connoisseurs seeking authenticity and finesse.

95/100

Exotic notes of coriander seed, nutmeg, curry, leather and earth unfold from this quite singularly aromatic wine before revealing green tropical aromas of ambarella and a hint of lanolin. The palate is equally confounding, with an almost Vouvray-like balance between minerality, beeswax, grapefruit and ginger before sweet mango flavours take over on the lusciously off-dry finish, all held within chewy basket of earthy, spicy tannins. Quite unlike any other gewürztraminer I have had before from New Zealand, but there is no mistaking the depth, concentration and length

The Real Review

Scores

94/100

Complex aromas of rosewater, orange peel, sweet spices and flint on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with precise acidity cutting through the creamy mouthfeel from 11 g/L of residual sweetness. Refined and pure with a phenolic edge adding an extra dimension of depth. Drink or hold.
