TASTING NOTES

Rippon Tinker's Field Pinot Noir 2022 offers a captivating expression of estate-grown fruit from the pristine shores of Lake Wanaka. This biodynamic, vegan-friendly, and certified organic wine is crafted with meticulous care, featuring no additional sulphites to preserve its natural purity and vibrant character.

Tinker's Field, named after Rippon’s visionary founder Rolfe Mills (affectionately known as "Tink") and his grandfather, is a unique north-facing slope formed by an ancient ejection cone of coarse schist gravels. This warm and exposed site is home to the oldest vines on the property, imparting exceptional depth and complexity to the wine.

The 2022 vintage showcases layered, detailed, and compressed power with a precise structure and an elegant, unforced masculinity. The wine’s refined profile reflects the cool-climate nuances of Central Otago, where Rippon's biodynamic practices harmonize with the region’s distinctive terroir to produce wines of remarkable purity and finesse.

With its vibrant red fruit aromas, subtle earthy undertones, and a silky, lingering finish, this Pinot Noir is a testament to sustainable viticulture and expert craftsmanship. Perfectly balanced and expressive, Rippon Tinker's Field Pinot Noir 2022 is an exceptional choice for those seeking a sophisticated, organic wine that speaks to the heart of New Zealand’s premier wine region.

Scores

96/100

The 2022 Tinker's Field Mature Vine Pinot Noir is so savory and mineral this vintage. The 2021 was eminently lithe and supple, but this is statuesque and serious, with sandalwood, aniseed, mountain flowers, amaro-esque herbs and something pure, powerful and bracing, like a briskly cold martini. This has curve and shape and a steely line that will bode well for its long future. For now, I'd likely drink the 2021 in its stead, while this comes of age. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under Diam.
