TASTING NOTES

Small Island Enso Coal River Pinot Noir 2024 offers an exquisite expression of Tasmania’s renowned Coal River Valley, crafted by one of the island’s most exciting boutique producers. This premium Pinot Noir is made from 100% Coal River fruit, sourced exclusively from a premium vineyard, ensuring exceptional purity and regional character.

With 10% whole bunch inclusion, the wine gains aromatic lift and structural finesse, while spending 12 months in seasoned French oak (second year) softens the tannins and adds a subtle savory complexity. The result is a complex, rounded, and incredibly smooth Pinot Noir that embodies the elegance and depth typical of top-tier Tasmanian wines.

The palate is richly layered with ripe dark cherries, forest floor nuances, cured meat undertones, and a delicate dash of oak spice. These elements combine seamlessly to deliver a silky texture and a long, refined finish that captivates with every sip.

Small Island Wines have quickly made a name for themselves with a focused, high-quality range that consistently impresses. The 2024 Enso Pinot Noir continues this tradition, reflecting the cool climate and unique terroir of the Coal River Valley, a region celebrated for producing elegant, expressive Pinot Noir.

James Broinowski, the visionary behind Small Island Wines, brings a fresh perspective to Tasmanian winemaking. With a background in viticulture and oenology from the University of Adelaide, and a pioneering approach to funding, his wines have garnered critical acclaim, including a gold medal at the Royal International Hobart Wine Show in 2016.

Key highlights:

Scores

96/100

Immensely complex and engaging, the bouquet shows sweet berry, dried herb, cured meat, warm mushroom, and nutmeg aromas. The palate is concentrated and expansive with fleshy texture backed by layers of polished tannins, making it splendidly structured and persistent. At its best:
now to 2036. $85.00. June 2025.
