TASTING NOTES

Sumarroca Letargia Cava Gran Reserva 2012 is a masterful expression of Spain’s celebrated Penedès region, renowned for producing some of the finest Cava in the world. Crafted from a harmonious blend of native grape varieties—Xarel-lo (47%), Macabeu (34%), and Parellada (19%)—this Gran Reserva showcases the true elegance and complexity that long aging can achieve.

Produced using the traditional method, identical to that used in Champagne, this Brut Nature Cava undergoes an exceptional 10 years of aging on lees. This extended maturation period allows the wine to develop intricate aromas and a refined palate, bringing forth a sophisticated balance of freshness and depth. The winery’s dedication to quality and tradition is evident in every bottle.

Tasting notes reveal a bright yellow color with a delicate gold rim. The nose is intense and inviting, featuring aromas of white fruit and flint, enhanced by subtle hints of toast and aromatic grassy notes. On the palate, rich stone fruit flavors emerge, complemented by a mellow texture and vibrant acidity that keeps the wine lively and refreshing. The finish is long and complex, embodying the finesse expected from a true Gran Reserva.

From the esteemed Penedès region, known for its ideal Mediterranean climate and limestone-rich soils, Sumarroca Letargia reflects the terroir’s influence and the meticulous care taken during vineyard management. The name “Letargia” refers to a period of rest in the vineyard, a time when the vines pause and prepare for a new cycle, symbolizing patience and the art of slow winemaking.

  • Originates from the Penedès region, a benchmark for premium Spanish Cava.
  • Crafted using the traditional method, ensuring authentic sparkling wine quality.
  • Aged 10 years on lees, delivering exceptional complexity and a long, elegant finish.
  • Offers remarkable value, with quality comparable to Champagnes priced two to three times higher.

Sumarroca Letargia Cava Gran Reserva 2012 is an exquisite choice for those seeking a refined sparkling wine with character, depth, and a true sense of place. Its blend of native grapes, meticulous craftsmanship, and extended aging make it a standout in

Lovely nuttiness, flinty smokiness as well. Brioche on the palate, lovely energy and autulytic notes combined - quite serious and in a lovely place right now. Toasty, zesty, chalky and layeerd.

Grapefruit pith, lemon curd, sea urchins and dried herbs on the nose. Creamy and biscuity on the palate, with a medium body and soft, rounded mousse. Elegant and flavorful.
