TASTING NOTES

This is a wine for those moments when patience pays off and richness unfolds sip by sip. The Dexter Black Label Pinot Noir 2024 is a rare treasure from Mornington Peninsula’s oldest vines, crafted with such care you can almost taste the dedication in every glass.

Imagine dark berries bursting with juicy blackberry, plum, and cherry notes, perfectly balanced by a soft entry and a luscious mid-palate sweetness that wraps you in a silky texture. Whole-bunch fermentation brings subtle layers of spice and a whisper of forest floor, adding depth without overpowering its bright, fruit-driven soul.

This limited-edition beauty is made only in the best years, with just a few barrels crafted to highlight the unique character of the Dexter vineyard. It’s the kind of wine that turns a quiet evening into a celebration of craft and place or elevates a dinner of roast chicken or mushroom risotto to something truly special.

Find your place with this elegant Pinot Noir and savor the moment like never before.

Vibrant full ruby red with a rich nose of black cherry, cola spice and sandalwood. Full and deep with ripe dark cherry melded with cinnamon and clove. Undertones of black truffle and forest floor add complexity. Wonderful length and persistence, tannins structured but discreet, allowing a broad and flowing finish

It comes across as open-knit, supple and really delicious from first sniff to last sip. Lots of cherry accents, all black and red, with a hint of aniseed and daikon, cedary and very spicy. It just gets in at mid-weight with fine tannins, juicy as anything, the acidity caressing and surprisingly lithe. Nice drinking here, and I’d wager on enjoying this rather than cellaring, although it’ll hold well for a few years.

The last Dexter Black Label Pinot Noir released was the 2019, so it’s very much a once in a while kind of wine.

Poached strawberry, raspberry, mint, spice and cardamom pods in particular, a mulchy autumnal thing here too. It’s medium-bodied, fine pumice stone tannin, a quiet succulence to the wine and subtle sappy tang, some blood orange/amaro character, a sweet vanilla and floral mouth-perfume, with a tactile finish of excellent length. This is peak Dexter Pinot Noir in a way. A quiet herbal and red fruited storm.
