TASTING NOTES

A true Australian icon for moments worth lingering over. Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz 2023 is a celebrated Clare Valley red, crafted from a vineyard planted by Jim Barry in 1968 and recognised among Australia’s finest collectible wines.

Expect an intensely fragrant bouquet of vibrant purple florals, white pepper, green cardamom and sandalwood, with a gentle touch of fresh vanilla. The palate is plush and richly layered, brimming with juicy blackberry, blueberry, molasses and a delicious hint of Luxardo cherry. Supple, generous and beautifully complex, it’s the signature style that has made The Armagh so admired.

Named Red Wine of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion 2027, this exceptional Clare Valley Shiraz is made for a special dinner, a meaningful gift or an evening of savouring every sip with slow-roasted lamb.

Scores

99/100

Shiraz of the Year. Score awarded by the Halliday tasting panel at the annual Awards judging. MB writes: The '23 harvest has produced perhaps one of the most restrained and fine Armagh releases of all. This is a sublime wine of control, levity and sense of freshness, but it doesn't miss the trick of concentration. There are ripples of dark forest berries, dark chocolate and cola, with new leather, graphite minerality, green olive herbal lift and a lick of spicy oak seasoning like a cherry on top. Tannins are silky, the wine beautifully and evocatively perfumed. The quieter voice and elegance here is beautiful. A striking wine.
