TASTING NOTES

A refined cool-climate Shiraz with serious pedigree, this is a standout bottle for moments worth slowing down for.

From an 8-acre block of Shiraz planted in 1973 at the western end of the Yarra Yering vineyard, the Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2024 is medium-bodied, perfumed and beautifully energetic. Think vibrant blue and black plum, layered with aniseed, liquorice spice, cured meat and a subtle smoky char. Fine stalk grip brings structure, while French oak adds a delicate touch of seasoning rather than taking centre stage.

Recognised with 97 points from Halliday Wine Companion, and from the winery named Winery of the Year in the 2026 Wine Companion, this elegant Yarra Valley Shiraz is made for a long dinner, slow conversation and savoury dishes that let its fruit purity shine.

97 Points – Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion 2027 From a shiraz vineyard planted in '73 adjacent to Yarra Yering. 10% whole bunches and matured mainly in large format oak (15% new). A deep, bright crimson. A brooding version of this bona fide Yarra classic. Aromas of boysenberry, blackcurrant, black pepper and lifted spice. On the palate this is compact and tightly coiled, just waiting to release its energy. A very good wine in the making that will clearly reward up to 15 years, if not longer, in the cellar.

96 Points – Stuart Knox, The Real Review. Deep ruby red with distinct purple at the rim. Mulberry, blood plum, iodine and black pepper aromas. Complex and balanced, ripe purple berry fruit forms the base with layers of iodine, fresh ground pepper, clove and cinnamon bark. Fine gravel tannins sit harmoniously, carrying to a very long, structured and drying finish. Demands revisiting.

Medium deep crimson. Lifted raspberry, dark plum, touch crème de cassis aromas with some praline notes. Smooth and velvety with ample raspberry, dark plum, pure blackcurrant, hint elderberry fruits, fine loose knit chalky/ graphite textures, lovely inky volume and underlying roasted walnut notes. Builds grippy/ slinky at the finish with the lovely persistency of fruit. Delicious drinking but should further develop. 13.5% alc
