"Jim Barry purchased Lodge Hill in 1977, as he was sure its 480 m altitude would produce high quality, minerally riesling. Bright pale green, the wine has a complex bouquet of spice, citrus and apple; the perfectly balanced palate is even more complex, with its flavour span anchored by citrus but extending into cool-climate chardonnay notes of white peach and grapefruit. The balance is particularly good, its chemical analysis enough to make riesling makers anywhere drool, and its minerality is as good as Jim Barry hoped for. Young or old - your decision."
- James Halliday

Tasting Notes

A generous opulent style Riesling with an aromatic drive of pink grapefruit, florals, green apple and a lift of tropical guava. Generous flavours of citrus and tropical fruit to open, tied together by a loosely woven framework of zippy acid. A wine of depth and complexity with a light, creamy texture through the middle focused by a lively, mineral finish.

This Riesling was sourced from the Lodge Hill vineyard and picked slightly later than usual in order to deliver a more generous and opulent style. A small parcel underwent cool fermentation in aged French barrels to enhance the texture of the wine.
